More About ProFractional Laser

Are there any side effects?

Side effects of Profractional laser treatments are generally mild and fade within 3-4 days. They include swelling and redness. Benefits of the treatment are revealed over the next six months as damaged tissue is replaced with new collagen and elastin, and new healthy skin cells. Optimal results are usually experienced within two to three months. As with most cosmetic procedures there is a slight risk of infection or scarring related to Profractional laser treatment. For darker skin there is a slight risk of pigment loss.

Following treatment it is extremely important to avoid direct sun exposure for approximately three months and to apply a sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher (UVA/UVB), prior to sun exposure. Your newly treated skin is very sensitive and must be pampered during healing. Your doctor may recommend the use of an antimicrobial ointment as well to promote proper healing.

What is this treatment for?

Profractional laser treatments are used at South Island Medical to more aggressively treat age and sun spots, reduce the appearance of uneven skin pigmentation, lessen the severity of wrinkles, and improve stretch marks. Profractional Laser treatments also reduce scarring.

How many treatments will I need?

Most patients require 2-3 sessions at 4 to 6 week intervals for maximum effectiveness. This will vary depending upon the skin condition and severity of the condition being treated.
